Nordic conference
The Organisation for International Women in Malmö arranged a Nordic conference
in Malmö, 29-30 October, within the
Samarbeta Jämt project.
At the conference future
cooperation between immigrant women's organisations was in focus.
The programme included
interesting subjects such as: "Female mentorship as a way of opening doors to
society and the job market", "Against sexualisation of the public sphere" "How
to create a place in politics for groups marginalised on the grounds of for
example ethnicity? and follow up to computer learning in Samarbeta Jämt in the
Nordic countries"

Friday 28 October
Friday evening, we had the opportunity to visit the African Reference Centre in Malmö, a really impressing Safe Sex Project.
Saturday 29 October
08:45-09:00 Registration
9.00 – 9.15 We listened to a welcome speech by Jelica Ugricic, coordinator for Cooperate always in the Nordic Countries: she introduced the cooperation among the Nordic Countries and wanted us to share the knowledge of the qualified speakers because it is the first time that people involved in IT course in the Nordic Countries meet in one place! She put future cooperation between immigrant women's organizations in focus.
9.15 – 9.30 Opening remarks by the Deputy Mayor in Malmö: Birgitta Nilsson. Female mentorship as a way of opening doors to society and the job market.
9.30 – 10.10 After listening to some classical music, Elisabeth Möller Jensen,director of KVINFO and project leader of KVINFOS mentor network in Denmark made it clear for us that women mentorship of other women can create networks and make it much easier to have a job and enter the society.
10.10 – 10.30 Annelie Hemström stressed the importance of Internet, but some control from the parents is needed so that children don’t get the wrong information, she said. The parents can join their children at the internet, she proposed. And she also mentioned the importance of mentor’s name in CV for job seekers – the influence of which is guaranteed!
10.30 – 10.50 We had refreshments and got to know each other’s organizations,how we can cooperate in terms of projects and so on.
10.50 – 11.30 We listened to some successful mentorship experiences with a positive impact on life.
11.30 – 12.15 We were divided in 4 different groups: Finland and Iceland, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. We talked about the topics addressed that far in general. Against sexualisation of the public sphere.
13.15 – 14.45 After lunch, we listened to Gunilla Jarlbro, Media researcher at the University of Lund telling us how the media can use news in negative way while it can do the opposite. The media needs to make better gender stereotypes and adults should critically review media content.
14.45 – 15.45 Our groups discussed in detail Female mentorship as a way of opening doors to society and the job market. We came up with one conclusion: Advertisers, use girls’ pictures dressed in a descent way! Follow up to computer learning in Cooperate always in the Nordic Countries.
15.45 – 17.00 Representatives from Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Finland discussed the experiences gained from IT-courses in their different countries.
Sunday 30 October
How to create a place in politics for groups marginalized on the grounds of , for example, ethnicity?
9.00 – 9.45 Diana Mulinari, researcher at the University of Lund revealed in her research that immigrant mothers don’t take care of their children.
9.45 – 10.15 Deputy Mayor Iva Parizkova Ryggståhl talked about woman as immigrant and politician. We were impressed by her success both in family life and politics! This is the woman who stands for what she believes in!
10.15 – 10.45 Refreshments and networking. We talked about the topics addressed that far in general.
10.45 – 11.15 Monica Lundgren stressed the need of more women in politics.
11.15 – 12.15 Group work: We agreed to involve more organizations in these IT-courses, to put women in a descent way in advertising, and to work for children with the right use of Internet.
12.15 – 13.00 Women demand their rights for the future.
13.00 – 14.00 Lunch. Closing.
